Carol Murphy is a member of BRI-FORTH since 2000. She has a B.Sc (hons) from University College Dublin, Ireland (1982) and a PhD from the same university (1987). She worked as a post-doctoral fellow at the Differentiation Program at the European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) and also in the Cell Biology Program at the EMBL, Heidelberg, Germany. She then moved to the Laboratory of Biological Chemistry at the University of Ioannina (UOI) Medical School, Greece, where she was funded by the EU as “Experienced Scientist”. Since 2001 she has been working as Researcher B at BRI-FORTH. CM has published 36 papers, has 1,918 citations and several patent applications. Her recent research interests include the intracellular trafficking of receptors and the control of signaling with extension to human stem cells and human induced pluripotent stem cells. She has established and maintains the “Confocal Microscopy Unit” at the UOI, more recently adding also super resolution STED microscopy to the facility. She has also successfully organized workshops at the UOI in “Basic Light Microscopy” in collaboration with other Greek Organizations.
