We study the molecular mechanism of membrane biogenesis and protein trafficking of the bacterial secretome/membranome focusing on two protein export pathways:
1. The
Sec pathway (ubiquitous and essential throughout life).
2. The
Type III secretion (T3S) pathway (essential pathogenicity determinant in several Gram negative bacteria).
Our expertise in molecular membrane biology, protein purification, enzymology and biophysics allowed us to explore
biotechnological applications in the following directions:
1. Novel Antibacterials.
2. Biotechnology of recombinant biopharmaceuticals.
3. Biosensors.
4. Bionanotechnology.
