The Bioinformatics Unit at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB-FORTH) provides bioinformatics expertise and computational support to IMBB researchers and external collaborators, helping them manage and interpret complex biological data.
Our core focus is on Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS) data, including DNA, RNA, and other omics datasets. We also develop bioinformatics tools and web applications tailored to IMBB’s research needs.

Services include:
Differential gene expression analysis
Transcriptome assembly and annotation
Variant analysis (SNPs, indels)
Phylogenetic analyses
Pathway and gene set enrichment analysis
• Custom workflows and pipeline automation
• Data visualization and reporting

The Unit promotes the use of FAIR data principles to ensure that biological data is Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable.

Our group also provides mentoring and hands-on training to members of IMBB labs who would like to be more proficient in performing standard bioinformatics analyses.

We work closely with the IMBB Computing & Networks Group to maintain a robust computing infrastructure and partner with the IMBB Genomics Facility to offer seamless support from data generation to analysis.

Through this integrated approach, the Bioinformatics Unit advances the research mission of IMBB by delivering expert guidance, tools, and resources.
