Γνωστικές λειτουργίες, όπως η μνήμη εργασίας (ή εργαζόμενη μνήμη) και η μακρόχρονη μνήμη, αποτελούν χαρακτηριστικά των ανώτερης νοητικής λειτουργίας που έχει εξελιχθεί σημαντικά στα θηλαστικά, και κυρίως στον άνθρωπο. Νευροφυσιολογικοί μηχανισμοί που υποστηρίζουν αυτές τις διαδικασίες αποτελούν η παραμένουσα δραστηριότητα και η μακρόχρονη ενδυνάμωση. Τα ερευνητικά ενδιαφέροντα του εργαστηρίου μου εστιάζουν στη μελέτη αυτών των νευροφυσιολογικών μηχανισμών κατά τη διάρκεια της μεταγεννετικής ανάπτυξης, της μάθησης, μετά από στρες και σε παθολογικές καταστάσεις. Στόχος μας αποτελεί η ταυτοποίηση κυτταρικών διαδικασιών που καθιστούν επιρρεπείς τους παραπάνω μηχανισμούς κατά τη διάρκεια κρίσιμων περιόδων της ζωής και την ανάπτυξη μεθόδων πρόληψης ή αντιμετώπισης των νευροψυχιατρικών ασθενειών.
