Η πολύπλοκη πολυγενετική φύση των διαταραχών του εγκεφάλου, όπως οι νευροαναπτυξιακές διαταραχές (Διαταραχή Αυτιστικού Φάσματος, σύνδρομο εύθραυστου Χ, διανοητική αναπηρία) οι νευροψυχιατρικές διαταραχές (κατάθλιψη, σχιζοφρένεια) και οι νευροεκφυλιστικές νόσοι (νόσος του Parkinson, νόσος του Alzheimer) μαζί με μια πληθώρα μη γενετικών παραγόντων, παρεμποδίζουν τις προσπάθειές μας να τις κατανοήσουμε και να τις αντιμετωπίσουμε. Μελετώντας συγκλίνουσες σηματοδοτικές, μοριακές και κυτταρικές οδούς , μπορούμε να κατανοήσουμε την αιτιολογία αυτών των διαταραχών του εγκεφάλου. Οι πρωτεΐνες των κυττάρων καταλύουν τις περισσότερες από τις αντιδράσεις από τις οποίες εξαρτάται η ζωή. Μεταφραστικός έλεγχος είναι το άθροισμα των ρυθμιστικών γεγονότων που υπαγορεύουν αλλαγές στην σύνθεση πρωτεϊνών, ανά mRNA, ανά μονάδα χρόνου, και είναι καθοριστικός ρυθμιστής της αφθονίας των πρωτεϊνών. Το εργαστήριό μας επικεντρώνει στην κατανόηση των μοριακών και σηματοδοτικών μηχανισμών του μεταφραστικού ελέγχου στον εγκέφαλο και πώς αυτοί ελέγχουν τις σύνθετες λειτουργίες και συμπεριφορές του εγκεφάλου, όπως μάθηση, μνήμη, κοινωνικές αλληλεπιδράσεις, άγχος και φόβος, αλλά και πώς επηρεάζουν την υγεία του εγκεφάλου (π.χ. νευροεκφύλιση).
