Η έρευνα στο εργαστήριο μου έχει επικεντρωθεί σε δύο πεδία της βιολογίας των φορέων ασθενειών και της παρασιτολογίας. Αυτά είναι, πρώτον, η μελέτη των μοριακών μηχανισμών που καθορίζουν το πέρασμα του παρασίτου της ελονοσίας μέσα από το μεσέντερο του κουνουπιού και την μετέπειτα ανάπτυξη του Πλασμωδίου στον Ανωφελή φορέα. Δεύτερον, έχουμε εξειδικευθεί στην γονιδιοματική και τη βιοπληροφορική με έμφαση στην κατασκευή ειδικών βάσεων δεδομένων και την ανάπτυξη βιο-οντολογιών. Στην πρώτη περιοχή έχουμε ταυτοποιήσει έναν αριθμό πρωτεϊνών του Ανωφελούς που αλληλεπιδρούν με το Πλασμώδιο επιτρέποντάς του να περάσει τα στάδια του κύκλου ζωής του στο κουνούπι χωρίς να του επιτεθεί το ανοσοποιητικό σύστημα του εντόμου. Επί πλέον, αναλύουμε τους μοριακούς μηχανισμούς την κίνησης του παρασίτου που ευθύνονται για το πέρασμα μέσα από τον φορέα. Στο πεδίο της βιοπληροφορικής η ομάδα μας έχει παίξει έναν κεντρικό, διεθνή ρόλο στην ανάπτυξη γονιδιοματικών και γενετικών βάσεων δεδομένων για τον Ανωφελή και άλλους φορείς ασθενειών, και επίσης είχε την πρωτοπορεία στην κατασκευή οντολογιών στο πεδίο των ασθενειών που μεταδίδονται από αρθρόποδα.
