Tα κύρια ερευνητικά μας ενδιαφέροντα είναι οι μοριακές διεργασίες που ρυθμίζουν την πλειοδυναμία των εμβρυϊκών βλαστικών κυττάρων και την αναγέννηση του νευρικού ιστού. Ειδικά:
1. Μελετάμε το ρόλο των μεταγραφικών παραγόντων και των μικρο-RNA (miR): α.στην αυτοανανέωση και διαφοροποίηση βλαστικών κυττάρων και β. στον επαναπρογραμματισμό σωματικών κυττάρων προς πλειοδυναμία (induced Pluripotent Stem cells, iPS). Γι 'αυτό το σκοπό χρησιμοποιούμε τεχνικές γονιδιακής σίγησης και υπερέκφρασης, καθώς και μεθοδολογίες γονιδιωματικής και πρωτεωμικής ανάλυσης. Επιπλέον, εκμεταλλευόμαστε την δράση μικρών μορίων και χρησιμοποιούμε νέα βιοϋλικά ως ικριώματα για επιλεκτική κυτταρική ανάπτυξη και διαφοροποίηση.
2. Μελετάμε μοριακούς μηχανισμούς που ρυθμίζουν την αυτοανανέωση, τη διαφοροποίηση και την απόκριση στο στρες των νευρικών βλαστικών κυττάρων (Neural Stem Cells, NSC) που προέρχονται από έμβρυα ποντικού η από πλειοδύναμα βλαστικά κύτταρα (2D και 3D καλλιέργειες). Χρησιμοποιώντας αυτά τα πειραματικά συστήματα στοχεύουμε να μοντελοποιήσουμε νευροεκφυλιστικές ασθένειες (π.χ. νόσο Alzheimers, AD) και να διερευνήσουμε την επίδραση των συνθετικών μικρο νευροτροφινών και της πρωτεΐνης Προμυελοκυτταρικής Λευχαιμίας (Promyelocytic Leukemia Protein, PML) προκειμένου να καθοδηγήσουμε μελλοντικές διαγνωστικές η θεραπευτικές προσεγγίσεις.
