The research interests of the Plant Molecular Biology Group cover the
analysis of plant pathogens - viruses, viroids, bacteria and fungi - and their
molecular interactions with their host plants. In addition, we study the
postharvest molecular physiology of fruit and vegetables as well as the
molecular physiology of plants in response to abiotic stress. Understanding
these different processes and their fundamental mechanisms at the molecular
level is of considerable scientific interest and offers opportunities for
practical applications in plant biotechnology for crop protection
and quality improvement. Besides the plant-focused projects, we also work on
the general development of the ribozyme technology, which we apply in plant
biotechnology and other areas of biomedical research.
