Our aim is to provide insight to protein function by crystal structure analysis of selected molecules with biological significance like antibiotic peptides or soluble enzymes. We have attempted to elucidate the catalytic mechanism of the hydrolytic enzyme chitinase A.
Moreover, we study the role of metal ions in the function of electron transport proteins. In addition, pre-protein transport across the cytoplasmic membrane and mitochondial biogenesis has also attracted our interest.
Finally, we have been involved with molecular modelling of difficult to produce and crystallize integral membrane proteins.
All above mentioned approaches are complemented by the necessary collaborations with research groups in other fields of science like chemistry and molecular biology.
