How to apply


UNIVERSITY OF CRETE
INTERDEPARTMENTAL PROGRAMME OF POSTGRADUATE STUDIES
OF MOLECULAR BIOLOGY-BIOMEDICINE

1. The Departments of Biology and Medicine of the University of Crete in collaboration with the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of FORTH offer a programme in postgraduate studies in "Molecular Biology-Biomedicine". For the academic year of 2012-13 the programme will start in October 2012.

2. The programme of postgraduate studies leads to a Postgraduate Degree with Specialisation (P.D.S.), equivalent to a M.Sc., in "Molecular Biology-Biomedicine" which is completed within four (4) to six (6) academic semesters.

3. Successful applicants should be B.Sc. holders or students during their last year of studies from Greek or accredited foreign Universities or B.Sc. holders from Technological Education Institutes (T.E.I.) from the departments of: Medicine, Biology, Veterinary, Pharmacology, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Computing and any other subject relevant to Physics, Mathematics, Statistics as well as from Departments of Agricultural Universities according to the specifications set by law N. 2327/95 and its supplement N. 2961/2001 and the Regulation of Postgraduate Studies of the Interdepartmental Programme of Postgraduate Studies of "Molecular Biology-Biomedicine" of the University of Crete.

4. The Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology of FORTH will award studentship to top ranking students based on the evaluation procedure

Admission will be based on the following criteria:

É. The B.Sc. grade and the applicant's full transcript of all undergraduate courses

ÉÉ. Performance in undergraduate studies in relation to the specialisation area

ÉÉÉ. Certified knowledge of the English language

ÉV. Evaluation of reference letters

V. Personal interview

VI. Any other item relevant to the applicant's qualifications which turns out from his/her application form

Interviews will be held on the 14th and 15th of May 2012 in Heraklio, Crete.

6. Candidates should submit the following documents to the Secretariat of the Department of Biology of the University of Crete , at Voutes, Heraklion, until the 20th of April 2012.

•  Application form labelled "Program of Postgraduate Studies in Molecular Biology-Biomedicine"

•  Two recent passport-size photographs

•  Certified copy of B.Sc. In case the degree has not been issued at the time of the application but is expected by the end of the academic year, successful applicants should submit it during their registration. Alternatively, they can submit an official document from the relevant Department certifying the completion of their studies during their registration and the certified copy of the degree by the end of the calendar year.

•  A document indicating submission of application for degree accreditation at DOATAP (www.doatap.gr), for those applicants coming from foreign Universities. Accreditation should be certified by the end of the first academic year.

•  Certified copy of official transcript

•  Full CV including information on studying, research and/or professional activities, publication list and research collaborations if applicable and applicant's interests.

•  English language certificates

•  Outline stating the reasons for which the applicant wishes to carry out postgraduate studies

•  Two reference letters to be sent directly to the Department of Biology at the University of Crete

•  Declaration of Law N. 1599/86 stating that the applicant is not registered to another postgraduate programme at another Department

•  Any other information which, according to the applicant, might support and help the evaluation committee to assess his/her candidacy
