The Greek TID-Centre in Heraklion is located at the Protein Crystallography (PX) laboratories at the Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) of the Foundation for Research and Technology-Hellas (FORTH) and the Biology Department of the University of Crete . The two PX laboratories are headed by Dr. K. Petratos and Prof. M. Kokkinidis. The Structural Biology & Chemistry Group (SBCG) , headed by Dr. N. Oikonomakos at the Institute of Organic and Pharmaceutical Chemistry (IOPC) of the National Hellenic Research Foundation (NHRF) in Athens participates in the Greek TID-Centre. Biochemical and crystallization facilities (photo 1, photo 2, photo 3) provide the means for protein purification and growth of single crystals suitable for structure analysis. The local X-ray facilities (photo 1, photo 2) allow testing and diffraction data collections. For high resolution data collections visits are organized to European synchrotrons (DESY, Germany and ESRF, France). From June 23-25 , the BIOXHIT course ‘From Crystals to Structures' on Crystallization, Diffraction Data Collection, Processing and Phasing took place in the IMBB/ FORTH Heraklion.
Additional photos can be downloaded here. The feedback from the participants and the invited speakers was very positive, and for the Organizing Committee it was a challenging experience.
