The Behavioral Unit, headed by Dr. Emmanouil Froudarakis and Dr. Kyriaki Sidiropoulou, is located in the Animal House of IMBB and operates an additional satellite facility within the main institute premises. It provides the necessary infrastructure and expertise for systematic and quantitative assessment of rodent behavior, promoting high-quality and reproducible investigations aligned with international standards.

In more detail, the Behavioral Unit enables the study of how neural circuits and molecular mechanisms give rise to behavior, cognition, and emotion. It offers integrated support throughout the experimental process, from task selection and experimental design to data collection and analysis. Using advanced tracking systems and specialized software, the facility ensures precise, reproducible behavioral measurements. A wide range of established behavioral paradigms are routinely implemented, allowing assessment of various behavioral phenotypes. These include tests for locomotion and motor performance, memory and object recognition, anxiety-related behavior, sociability and social memory, as well as sensory discrimination and multisensory integration.
