Dimitrios Tzeranis is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Materials Science and Engineering, University of Crete. His group focuses on studying interactions between cells and 3D matrices, and developing devices based on biomaterials. Applications of interest include regenerative medicine, advanced tissues models, neural interfaces, medical robotics, and implantable devices.

Dr. Tzeranis holds a Dipl. Ing. from NTU Athens and the S.M. and Ph.D. degrees from Massachusetts Institute of Technology. His background integrates biomaterials, optics, systems biology, biomechanics and robotics. He has been awarded the NTUA Thomaidion award, the MIT Carl Sontheimer Prize and a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Individual Fellowship. He has published scientific papers in the fields of biomaterials, imaging, medical devices and biomechanics. Finally, he is co-founder of Reneurocell Therapeutics, a spinoff company of FORTH and UoC that develops advanced cell therapies for neurological disorders and injuries.
