Cognitive processes, such as working memory and long-term memory, are the hallmarks of advanced intellectual properties that have significantly evolved in mammals, and particularly humans. Neurophysiological mechanisms of these cognitive processes include persistent activity and long-term potentiation. My lab is interested in identifying how these neurophysiological mechanisms develop throughout postnatal life, how they are modulated by learning, stress and/or in pathological conditions. Our goal is to identify cellular processes that confer vulnerability to these neurophysiological mechanisms during critical life periods and identify ways to intervene in order to prevent the emergence and/or alleviate the symptoms of neuropsychiatric disorders.
