Our research aims to delineate the molecular mechanisms regulating inflammation and inflammatory diseases and identify biomarkers and therapeutic targets. In this context the lab analyzes mechanisms regulating activation and inactivation of macrophages at the level of signal transduction, cell metabolism and epigenetics. How metabolic changes at the level of organism (obesity, insulin resistance, microbiome) or at the cellular level (expression of signaling regulators or epigenetic modulators) affect innate immune training and alter responses to pathogens or other inflammatory triggers is investigated. The impact of nutrition on shaping innate immune responses and trained immunity is studied. The lab also focuses in the identification of circulating non-coding RNAs as biomarkers of inflammation-related disorders.
