The Institute of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology (IMBB) is pleased to announce the successful completion of the IMBB Junior Scientists Retreat, a two-day event dedicated to scientific exchange, collaboration, and the professional development of our early-career researchers.

Day 1 Highlights
The retreat opened with an outstanding keynote lecture by Vilaiwan Fernandes, who presented her research on “Integration of distinct signalling modalities to achieve single-cell patterning resolution” in the Drosophila brain.

Throughout the day, PhD candidates and Postdoctoral researchers from across IMBB delivered high-quality scientific talks, reflecting the depth, breadth, and excellence of research conducted at our institute.

We were also honored to host Spyros Artavanis-Tsakonas for an engaging discussion on the current research landscape in Greece and future opportunities for scientific growth and development.

The day concluded with a dynamic poster session, creating a vibrant environment for scientific dialogue and new collaborations.

Day 2 Highlights

The second day began with a keynote lecture by Marc Amoyel, who shared his work on how metabolism in somatic gonadal cells supports germline development in the Drosophila testis. We gratefully acknowledge HE-Twinning SCENTINEL_EU for sponsoring this session.

Our early-career researchers delivered another round of excellent scientific talks, once again showcasing the strength and diversity of IMBB’s scientific community.

A lively poster session followed, further encouraging the exchange of ideas and the formation of new scientific partnerships.
The retreat concluded with a series of social activities, including a treasure hunt—warm congratulations to the winning team—and an evening of wine tasting, music, and dancing.
